I wish I didn't type that
With there being only four races remaining in this years Formula One championship I thought I would check to see how everybody’s predictions are going from when we filled out our punter profiles at the beginning of the season.
Eyes of the Dragon: I suspect this profile may have been tampered with, especially the favourite motor racing personality question. As for the rest of its profile, well it get’s even weirder.
Gibernever: The current leader in three of underSteer's categories made Sennamental Favourite his enemy of choice. He is looking pretty cozy there. To a sad note though and Gibernever also made mention of his life’s aim of getting Tommy Raudonikis to be chief of the FIA. That was looking very likely but sadly Tommy has had to pull out of the race as he just had open heart surgery. Thankfully, Tommy’s horse racing selections service is still operating.
The doctor: The team he most wants to beat is Carlotta and that battle is still too close to call. As for his mission statement, well that’s probably best left unsaid…
The X Factor: The X Factor wanted to beat The doctor this year and that is looking fairly safe. You can tell how long ago that profile was filled out though as their location was XXXX Gold world. No doubt that would be VB world now.
DNF – Dead Near Fence: DNF – Dead Near Fence wanted to beat The Webbernator this year and boy what a safe option that was. The only softer option would have been to say you wanted to beat LIFO. DNF – Dead Near Fence also made mention of liking all things Finnish so I’m sure he would have been thrilled with Lordi’s victory at this year's Eurovision awards. Oh, and as for your mission statement... safely accomplished.
Gert: My favourite punters (taking over from Big Red) mission statement read “the reigning Minardi champion fears no man”. Such big words but of course Daryl Cullinan used to make similar bold statements and look what happened to him. Gert's listed a whole heap of chronic underSteer battlers namely MPR, Shawster, and Chewythewookie as the teams he wants to beat most. I just googled Rory Byrne as well and I soooooo wanted him to be some dud South African f1 “star” who drove one race for Eddie Jordan or someone back in the 80’s but it looks like Rory Byrne was actually a pretty good car designer. Damn it!
Mcwillari: Another punter who took an easy option and picked an underSteer habitual whipping boy as the punter they most want to beat. (p.s Mcwillari, he’s beating you)
Prognosticator: Prognosticator actually displayed a sense of humour by picking Jason Bargwanna as their favourite motor racing personality (I hope I'm not giving you too much credit there dude). Maybe you can tell us what Bargs was thinking at Bathurst 97' when he crashed on the warm-up lap?
LIFO: The more I looked at these profiles the stupider the predictions got. LIFO didn’t ask for much, he just’s wants to beat EVERYBODY! Frankly, there is more chance of seeing Stephen Hawking dance the Macarena on the moon than seeing LIFO ever win underSteer.
circumfrential groove: Anne Marie Sparkman is your favouirte motor racing personality? Christ, that’s a blast from the blast. You're giving away your age there buddy.
WHEELY TYRED & EXHAUSTED: Last but certainly not least. I love Mad Dog bashers and it seems we have another one here. I love it!
I guess we better talk about the previous race as well. Turkey saw another new F1 winner in Felipe Massa. The race was fairly good with a great battle between Schumi M and Alonso being the highlight. It was looking like another Ferrari 1-2 before a safety car came out and put a fly in the ointment. Alonso got ahead of Schumi in the first pit stop and that was all she wrote. This takes Alonso’s lead out to twelve points over Schumi now and with Monza coming up in the next few days a big result from Ferrari is a must.
Onto the underSteer ladder and we had The Chuckster winning this round with The Bundy Bear and badbull racing finishing second and third. Gibernever still holds a 30 point lead over The X Factor with a log-jam of teams battling away for the final podium position.
Now for a Sennamental Favourite p!ss drinking update. I recently received correspondence from him saying that he reached his 100th bar in Prague. As an ode to that milestone Sennamental Favourite is going to name his first born child JJ Murphy. Since visiting his 100th pub Sennamental Favorite has as of 3rd September now got up to 120 pubs. I’ve decided to use the Duckworth Lewis system to calculate how many pubs he would have visited before he returns home.
122. That doesn’t sound right?! Anyway, below is an excerpt from an early morning phone call to myself from Sennamental Favourite. Bare in mind Sennamental Favourite is the boss and brains behind underSteer. The commitment of the guy is unbelievable. He was calling from Amsterdam at about midnight local time last Saturday.
Gladious – Hello
Sennamental Favourite – Helllooooooo
Gladious – Hey, how’s it going? Where are you?
Sennamental Favourite – The DAM’ man, I’m in the DAM’
Gladious – Hey?
Sennamental Favourite – I walked straight from the bus station to the pub... I’m just topping up from last night
Gladious – Cool, you’ll have to talk up, I can’t hear much
Sennamental Favourite – Nigel and Guy
Gladious – Sorry?
Sennamental Favourite – Who’s on pole?
Well that’s it for now. Below is a list of the top 5 punters in the overall tt battle for most points in all four underSteer categories. I have included how many bonus points each team has to this point as well. Good luck at Monza.
1. Gibernever: 3354 ( 95 bonus points)
2. Carlotta: 3252 (25 bonus points)
3. Sennamental Favourite: 3135 (75 bonus points)
4. Eyes of the Dragon: 3004 (30 bonus points)
5. Go With The Clio: 2874 (50 bonus points)
